The cinematographer's camera crew includes assistants such as:

Camera operator

• operates the camera, according to the directions of the director and the cinematographer
• is not responsible for planning the lighting or camera movements
• is responsible for the action being in the shot, reacting to the action in front of the camera in a way that makes the camera movement seem deliberate

Focus puller

• loads and empties the cartridges (unless there is a 2nd assistant cameraman)
• changes the lenses
• keeps the camera in working order
• keeps the picture focused when moving the camera
• fills in the lab reports (unless there is a 2nd assistant cameraman)
• marks the places where the actors will stand and takes measurements between the object and the camera lens

2nd camera assistant

• reports to 1st assistant cameraman
• prepares the camera equipment for the 1st assistant cameraman
• loads and empties the cartridges
• fills in the lab reports
• uses the clapperboard in the beginning or the end of each take

Loader

• helps the 2nd assistant cameraman and loads the cartridges (when several cameras are used)
