Studio

  1. A major part of the (interior) scenes of films are usually shot in a studio. The advantage of studio shooting is the possibility of controlling the shooting conditions almost perfectly. Studios also have enough room for the shooting equipment and crew.

  2. In the US, film industry is dominated by the great Hollywood studios, or the so-called "majors", which also form the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). These seven great ones are (1998):
  • Walt Disney Company
  • Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.
  • Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
  • Paramount Pictures Corporation
  • Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp.
  • Universal Studios Inc.
  • Warner Bros.
