An
episode is, for example, an independent part of a series of
TV programs or films. Cf. Star Wars.
An
episodic structure
in a film means that the scenes are linked to each other loosely,
yet creating a whole.
For
example, the episodes of a film made of a cartoonist's life
could describe his tragic childhood in Varkaus, his wild youth
in Lahti, his intellectual college years in Helsinki and his
adventurous travels in Barcelona, Kuala Lumpur, etc.
