The
form of the film is its structure.
Dramaturgy deals with the structure and form of film. Film
happens here and now, progressing from the beginning through
the middle to the end. This basic structure (form) can further
be divided into very detailed parts, using terms such as act,
scene, sequence, curve of action, rhythm, shot, flashback
etc.
In
the screenplay phase it is most important to divide the film
into acts and scenes. There is usually no clear division of
the acts,
but the scenes are recorded in detail.
Form
is not a mold: A good, enjoyable film is not a copy of another
good film, even though an analysis almost always reveals structural
similarities between films.
