With
a flashback the viewer is told something that he needs to
know in order to understand the
plot and the
story.
This
is a common solution in, for example, crime films. A flashback
is often realized by a quick cut into "the past",
returning back into the present of the film.
Using
visual flashbacks can produce narrative problems, in a way;
they stop the progress of the drama.
