Story,
tale and drama are intertwined. Narration can be divided,
for example, into three dimensions:
- story, or a narrated tale
- an inner, experienced tale
- drama, or a lived tale
A
story reveals what the film is about. The same story can be
written into various plots.
Thus the plot and tale are not the same thing.
Robert
McKee writes that a good story is about eternal, universal
forms, not formulas. A
good film story follows the tradition of narration of thousands
of years, but it is not a copy of any other story made
by a recipe. A good story has to be told well: Content and
form are united.
