Reel

A film or videotape is stored on a reel. Video reels are nowadays a part of the videocassette. Traditionally, reels are also used to measure the duration of films.

Storage lengths of filmstock:

  • 16 mm film - 122 m and 311 m
  • 35 mm film - 122 m and 311 m

Running time of a reel (rule of thumb):

  • 35 mm small reel is 600 m
    - running time about 20 min.
  • 35 mm big reel is 1800 m
    - running time about 60 min.
